Why we exist

Most notebooks lose the argument on side two.

A brush pen through page one is how most people find out what they actually bought. By then the receipt is gone and the notebook is a coaster.

So we test in public. Twenty named pens on one page, the reverse photographed and published, nothing retouched. If the paper cannot take it, you will see it here before you pay for it.

How we build

Paper first. Everything else after.

Three decisions get made before a cover material is even discussed. They are the three that decide whether you keep using the book.

150gsm is the floor, not the upgrade

Every range gets the same ivory 150gsm stock. We do not keep a thinner line to hit a lower price, and we do not charge more for the weight.

It has to lie flat on a table

Binding is specified so a spread stays open at any page without a hand on it. A book you have to hold down is a book you quietly stop using.

Ivory, not bright white

Warm rather than bright white, which is easier on the eye under lamp light and closer to what your ink actually looks like. Every range uses the same stock.

Four things we will not do.

Sell a thinner value line

The cheapest book we make is on the same paper as the dearest. If we wanted a lower price we would take it out of the cover, not the page.

Charge for paper weight as an extra

150gsm is not a premium tier or a limited edition. It is the specification, on every range, at every price.

Retouch paper photography

Bleed, ghosting and feathering are shown as photographed. Editing them out is the one thing that would make every other claim worthless.

Invent a price to discount from

No permanent sale, no was-price theatre. £13.99 is the price because it is the price.
